Data Sources and Verification Policy

Where Garage Playbook's numbers come from, how calculators and guides are verified, and how every fact is dated.

This policy covers the facts, figures, and assumptions in our guides and calculators: safety rules, product specifications, coverage and sizing formulas, codes, and costs.

Sources we use

  • U.S. government agencies and federal rules, such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission and 16 CFR Part 1211 (garage door operator safety), the EPA (indoor air, carbon monoxide, mold and moisture), ENERGY STAR (insulation, dehumidifiers, lighting and cooling), OSHA (tool, noise and compressed-air safety), and the U.S. Fire Administration (heating fire safety).
  • Manufacturer manuals, specification sheets, and safety notices.
  • Standards and test methods such as ASTM concrete moisture tests and DASMA technical data sheets, cited by name.
  • Codes and standards bodies, cited by name and edition where relevant.
  • Approved product feeds from affiliate partners, for product names and links only.
  • Our own calculations, with the formula shown.

What we do not use

We do not scrape or republish proprietary databases, user reviews, protected photos, or copyrighted descriptions from other websites. When we summarize information, we write our own text and link to the source. We do not invent test results, search volumes, prices, coverage rates, or savings figures.

Verification

  • Every calculator lists its assumptions and shows how each result was calculated.
  • Time-sensitive facts such as incentives, rates, and prices carry the date we checked them, or are left out and linked instead.
  • Guides are re-checked on a schedule and whenever a reader reports a change.
  • Information we cannot verify is labeled as such or not published.

Your responsibility

Prices, codes, and product specifications change. Confirm current information with the manufacturer or your local building department before you buy, use a trained technician for garage door springs and cables, and use a licensed electrician for any work on home wiring.

Report a change
