Review Methodology

Exactly how Garage Playbook evaluates garage doors and openers, floor coatings and tiles, storage systems, heaters, and workshop tools, and how we label tested versus researched reviews.

Our product guides help you choose products that fit your garage. Here is how we evaluate products and how we tell you what our conclusions are based on.

Tested or researched: always labeled

Every review and comparison states at the top whether it is based on hands-on testing or research. Research-based reviews rely on manufacturer specifications and manuals, certifications and safety listings, warranty terms, independent lab data where available, recall databases, and our own analysis. We never present research as personal testing.

What we evaluate

Criterion What we look at
Fit for your garage Dimensions and clearances, load ratings, noise, temperature range, ventilation and power needs, installation difficulty and safety features
Performance The specifications that matter for the task (for example usable watt-hours, continuous and surge output, cooling capacity, signal gain)
Power use Consumption and how it affects off-grid camping
Safety Certifications (such as UL or ETL listings), protection features, installation requirements, recalls
Ownership Warranty length and terms, support, parts availability, and availability in the US
Value What you get at different budgets, and when a cheaper option is enough

How we choose what to include

We start from reader needs and search demand, shortlist products that meet the key specifications, and include alternatives from more than one merchant. Commission rates are not a selection criterion, and we include products that pay us nothing when they are the better choice.

What we never do

  • Publish star ratings, scores, or review counts that we did not produce.
  • Copy customer reviews from retailers.
  • Quote prices that may be out of date.
  • Accept payment for a rating, a position, or a positive review.

Updates

We revisit recommendations when products change, are discontinued, or are recalled, and show the last-updated date on every review.
