Editorial Policy
How Garage Playbook researches, writes, fact-checks, discloses, and updates every guide, and how we use AI responsibly.
Garage Playbook exists to help people plan and build better garages, with clear measurements and honest trade-offs. This policy describes the standards every article, guide, and tool must meet.
Our principles
- Useful first: every article solves a specific problem a real reader has, and ends with a clear next step.
- Accurate: factual claims are checked against primary and authoritative sources, which we link.
- Honest: we separate fact from opinion, label opinions, and never fabricate testing, travel experiences, statistics, quotes, ratings, or reviews.
- Independent: affiliate relationships and partners have no say in what we cover or conclude.
- Accountable: every article names its author and shows when it was published and last updated.
Sources we rely on
Government agencies and standards (for example the Consumer Product Safety Commission and the federal garage door operator standard, the EPA, ENERGY STAR, OSHA, the U.S. Fire Administration, and ASTM test methods), state and local building departments, manufacturer documentation and specifications, standards bodies, peer-reviewed research, and reputable news outlets. We avoid anonymous forums and content farms as sources of fact.
How an article is made
- Topic research using search demand, reader questions, and gaps in existing guidance.
- Search-intent analysis: what does the reader actually need to decide or do?
- Outline and drafting.
- Fact check and source verification of every factual claim.
- Affiliate review: links only where genuinely useful, to approved programs, with disclosure.
- Human editorial review for accuracy, clarity, tone, and safety.
- SEO and accessibility review (headings, alt text, readability).
- Publication, followed by monitoring and scheduled updates.
Use of artificial intelligence
We may use AI tools to help organize research, suggest outlines, and draft text. AI never publishes on its own: every AI-assisted draft is held for human review, and a person checks facts, adds sources, removes anything unverifiable, and takes responsibility for what is published. We do not use AI to invent experiences, testimonials, reviews, or images presented as real photographs of events. Original illustrations or generated images are used only as decorative or editorial visuals, never as evidence of product testing or travel.
Product coverage
Reviews and comparisons follow our Review Methodology and state whether we tested a product hands-on or researched it.
Health, legal, and financial topics
We cover these topics as general education, cite official sources, avoid individualized advice, and recommend qualified professionals.
Updates and corrections
We review high-traffic guides regularly and update them when facts change. Errors are corrected under our Corrections Policy.
