Garage Floor Tile Calculator: Tiles, Ramps and Boxes

Count the interlocking garage floor tiles, edge ramps and boxes you need from your floor size and tile size.

Interlocking tiles are the fastest way to cover a stained or cracked garage floor. Enter your floor size, tile size and the length of exposed edges, and the calculator counts tiles, edge ramps and boxes.

When this tool helps most

Use it before ordering. Tiles are usually sold singly or in boxes, and running short means waiting for a second order that may not match the first batch’s color.

How to use this tool

  1. Measure the floor length and width.
  2. Enter the tile size; many garage tiles are 12 by 12 inches.
  3. Enter the length of edges that need ramps, usually the door edge.
  4. Enter tiles per box, if they come boxed, and a small allowance for cuts.

Worked example

A 22 by 20 foot floor with 12-inch tiles is 20 tiles across and 22 deep. With 5 percent extra for cuts and spares, that is 462 tiles, plus 20 edge ramps along a 20-foot door edge.

Understanding your results

The count includes spares for cuts around posts, steps and drains. Keep a few spare tiles: they make it easy to replace a damaged one later.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Forgetting the expansion gap at walls.
  • Laying tiles on a floor that stays wet underneath; fix water problems first.
  • Ordering ramps for every edge when walls cover most of them.
  • Mixing tiles from different batches in the middle of the floor.

How to get the most accurate result

  • Measure your own garage with a tape measure instead of using typical sizes.
  • Use the numbers printed on your product labels, manuals and data sheets.
  • Change one input at a time to see which assumption matters most.
  • Print or save the result and bring it to your installer or contractor.
